Brewers (16-29) vs Giants (25-20) series preview

One of the best teams in baseball faces off against one of the worst. I'll let you guess which team is which.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

These two teams couldn't be on more different paths. The Brewers have the worst record in the National League. They're four games back of the next worst teams. Only the Oakland A's have a worse record in baseball. The Giants on the other hand have the fourth best record in the NL and are only 2 games back of the division leading Dodgers.

Offensive Spotlight

Well, it's not former Brewer Casey McGehee who was just DFA'd by the Giants. One would not be thought crazy to assume Buster Posey is leading the Giants in offensive output this year. One would be incorrect. One could be thought crazy to guess it is actually Brandon Crawford leading the Giants in offensive output this year. One would however be correct. Craword is slashing 301/483/514 with a team leading .385 wOBA. That's pretty incredible for Crawford because he's usually a defense first shortstop.

Pitching Match-Ups

Monday May 25, 1:10 pm CST: Kyle Lohse vs Tim Lincecum

Lincecum is leading the Giants in ERA right now with a 2.08. That's in large part thanks to his 0.19 HR/9. There's a good chance that doesn't last all year.

Tuesday May 26, 7:10 pm CST: Matt Garza vs Madison Bumgarner

Bumgarner is doing Bumgarner things with a 2.84 ERA, 3.37 FIP, and 3.55 xFIP. He's the best pitcher the Giants have and one of the best in baseball.

Wednesday May 27, 12:40 pm CST: Wily Peralta vs Ryan Vogelsong

Ryan Vogelsong has the lowest fWAR among Giants pitchers: -0.6. It seems the best days are long past for this once very good starter.
