Pirates 10, Brewers 2: Bad night for the Brew Crew

Sometimes terrible games just happen. That's about the best way to summarize this one, as the Brewers didn't have much of a chance at all tonight.

There's no sugar-coating the game that the Brewers had on Saturday night. It was just a bad game for them.

Zach Davies made his third start for the Brewers and it didn't go well at all. He only pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on six hits and five walks. Five of those runs came in the third inning, with a sixth tacked on in the fourth. He only recorded outs to half of the batters he faced. Kyle Lohse came in and pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, but the game was fully put out of reach with four runs allowed by Cesar Jimenez in the seventh inning.

Meanwhile, the Brewers offense just couldn't get anything going. Jeff Locke retired 18 of the first 20 batters he faced. The Brewers did load the bases in the seventh inning to chase Locke out of the game, but only managed one run out of that. In total, Locke pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. In the Pirates bullpen, Joe Blanton allowed a run to Ryan Braun on an RBI double, but nothing else.

The Brewers will try to salvage a split against the Pirates in the final game of the series tomorrow. Taylor Jungmann will face Francisco Liriano in the fourth game of the series. First pitch is at 12:35 pm.
