BCB Mailbag 5: Frolf and The Big Panda

Answering the burning questions from you, the reader.

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

It’s already been a whirlwind day, so let’s get started on the mailbag:

strangebrew82 asks:

Pablo Sandoval

If the Brewers move Villar to second and trade Scooter, the obvious choice to play third would be to sign Luis Valbuena. What if the Brewers decided to think outside the box and take on a bad contract at third? What do you think it would take for the Brewers to acquire Pablo Sandoval? His worst (full) season in 2015 was comparable to Valbuena’s best in 2016. Both have injury concerns. Thoughts?…..

Well, Sandoval hit .245/.292/.366 in 2015 and played only three games last year so he’s not really comparable to Valbuena at this time, in my opinion. He’s also owed another $58 mil through 2019 (including a buyout for 2020), so the Red Sox would have to eat an awful lot of his contract or sell me some very interesting prospects to pique my interest at this point.

Uncle Father Oscar asks:

Which is your favorite minor league name change for 2017:

The New Orleans Baby Cakes, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Down East Wood Ducks, or the Florida Fire Frogs?

The Down East Wood Ducks, because if you Google “Down East” it has nothing to do with Kinston, NC. Apparently “Down East” is a brand of women’s clothing as well as the geographical location of eastern coastal New England and Canada. Nowhere on the Wikipedia page for “Down East” does it mention North Carolina or the Wood Ducks.

AKBrewerfan asks:

My birthday was this week (Yay, me! You were born!)

What Brewers jersey should my loved ones have purchased for me? I would want someone who will be on the team for awhile.

Hey, my birthday was also this past week! I celebrated the big #25 on Sunday.

If you’re looking for a jersey of someone who should be around awhile, how about Davies, Arcia, Villar, or...Counsell?

drezdn asks:

Which Brewer do you think would be the best at disc golf?

Shorter mailbag today but we put a lot of other content out on the site today so forgive me for being a little beat. Thanks for the questions, we’ll talk to you again next week!
