A few days ago, the Brewers got Sean Nolin off waivers from the Oakland A's. While some may think differently of this move, here's why you should be ready for this young lefty to make an impact for the Brewers.
The press thought that this was a hasty move to DFA Nolin to make room for OF Khris Davis on the Oakland roster. I thought it was a mistake but I really don't know a lot about the back end of baseball since I'm a casual New York fan (now a Brewer fan as well). I know baseball is a business and since we see guys making gazillions of dollars playing the game they love, I understand this.
Here's what most Milwaukee fans may not know about Sean Nolin. My family and I know Sean since he was a kid. A big time pitcher for Seaford High School in New York and in all of the little leagues and travel teams on Long Island. Not only can he pitch, but he can hit the heck out of the ball as a batter. Obviously, the NL has their pitchers hit and this is a plus for Nolin and the Brew Crew.
The one thing that never gets discussed is a player's heart. Most fans will never know just how hard he has worked to get to this point. You may never know how much of a gentleman he is. He is as graceful as he is humble. He'll throw a ball around with this old man out in the street like we're two kids on a baseball sandlot or play Monopoly by candlelight during a blackout. He is a great kid, super motivated and a true professional. You will see when it's time.
Sean is a professional in every sense of the word and Brewers fans will be proud to have him pitch for them. Sit tight and watch the magic happen. Maybe Milwaukee is the place where he has belonged since the beginning.
