Opening Day Countdown: Aaron Hill turns 34 in March

We're only 34 days away from baseball. So let's talk about one of the few Brewers left that's older than me!

I love Aaron Hill. No not in a weird way, why did you have to go there immediately what's wrong with? No, I just really like that Aaron Hill is older than me. He, Matt Garza, and Ryan Braun are the only Brewers likely to make the opening day roster that are older than me. And man...that makes me feel old. And it's even worse now that David Stearns--who is also younger than me damn it--has brought in so many young players.

I too have a birthday next month. I'll be turning 32. God it's depressing writing that out. *sigh* Anyway, I thought I'd take a look at the 40-man roster to ruminate on how old and irrelevant I've become. According to ESPN, the Brewers average age is 26.0 years. That's the third youngest team in baseball after the Reds (25.9 yrs) and somehow the Nationals (24.9 yrs). That doesn't seem right about the Nationals but I'm not motivated enough to add up all the players on their 40-man roster.

The oldest player on the Brewers 25-man roster is currently 33, soon to be 34 year old Aaron Hill. Next is Ryan Braun who will be 32 for the whole season. Then it's Matt Garza who is actually just a few days younger than Braun. On the 40-man roster Junior Guerra is the only other player age 30 or older--and yes, he's still young then me dangnabbit.

The youngest player on the 40-Man roster is Orlando Arcia. That sonofab...ahem, the Brewers top prospect is over ten years younger than me! He was born 8/4/94. I was ten and just starting fifth grade. Jokes on him though. I got to see "Jurassic Park" in the theaters when it was new! Zach Davies is the next youngest having been born in February of 1993. At that point, "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" was in the middle of it's third season.

All kidding aside I think it's great the Brewers are so young now. It can only mean good things for the future of the franchise. And by this time next year it could look significantly younger with players like Ryan Braun and Matt Garza sure to be available in trade talks. Not to mention the fact that other young guys like Brett Phillips, Jacob Nottingham, and Josh Hader will have been added to the 40-man roster by that point. The children are our future!
