The Brewers will probably have to face Jake Arrieta in this series against the Cubs. It just won't be tonight. Due to rainy and cold conditions in Chicago, tonight's Brewers-Cubs game has officially been postponed. No makeup date has been announced yet.
With the Brewers and Taylor Jungmann set to face the Cubs and Jake Arrieta tonight, it was looking like a one-sided game. However, with rain not set to finish until after 8 pm, it would have been a wet field tonight, and the cold temperatures in Chicago would have made this game miserable to play at best. Postponing it is probably in the best interest of the players for both teams.
There's no word yet about how the rainout will affect the starters for tomorrow's games and beyond. It would make sense to just push back both Taylor Jungmann and Jake Arrieta a day, so the Brewers may still have to face Arrieta in a matinee game tomorrow. We will update the post when we have more details on the makeup date and the adjusted rotation.
EDIT: The Brewers have officially announced that Taylor Jungmann will still start tomorrow. No news on if the rest of the rotation will go back a day or if they will adjust another way. Also, Jake Arrieta will also be pushed back a day and start tomorrow.
The reason for the postponement of the game is that a clear window of weather could not be guaranteed after 8 pm. With no clear weather window, it makes sense to just postpone it now rather than sit through multiple rain delays, especially with the Brewers playing 20 in a row.
