Yesterday in the first game of the season the Brewers fell to the Giants in blowout 12-3 loss. But a large portion of those runs came off the front of the bullpen, which was taxed after an early exit from Wily Peralta (4 IP). Today they'll look to get a better performance out of last year's best Brewers starter, Jimmy Nelson. This will be Nelson's first regular season start since taking a line drive off his head in September of last year. He pitched just fine in Spring Training so it shouldn't be a problem anymore. But it's worth mentioning.
The Giants will send Johnny Cueto to the mound. The Brewers have always seemed to struggle against Cueto. He has a unique windup with a pause right before he throws, that can put hitters off their timing. He's not the frontline starter he once was, but he's still a very good 2/3 SP. Milwaukee might have their hands full.
One other point of interest is Ramon Flores getting the start in center. Yesterday it was Keon Broxton. Kirk Nieuwenhuis is also in the CF mix. Craig Counsell has been saying for weeks that they won't dub anyone the regular starter in CF so it could be a regular rotation out there until someone proves they should be the one to get the majority of playing time. If you want my advice, keep an eye on Michael Reed in Colorado Springs. There's a nonzero chance he takes hold of center field before the season ends.
