The Brewers currently have seven players on the disabled list. They also have a few people on the active roster hurting right now. The injuries are piling up for the Brewers, but some players are making progress and getting closer to returning. Meanwhile, others could be out for a while still. Let's go through the current list of injured players and discuss where everyone is currently at.
Ryan Braun
Braun was scratched from last night's game with right wrist soreness. He was not able to pinch-hit either, which was evident from the fact that Chris Capuano hit for himself. He is also out of the lineup for today's game. For now, it appears to be a day-to-day injury.
Will Smith
The most positive report so far may come from Will Smith's recovery. Recovering from a tear in a knee ligament, Smith threw a bullpen session on Friday and emerged from it feeling good. According to a report from Adam McCalvy, he started out at 60% intensity but was at full intensity by the end. He's still a few weeks away at best from returning, but everything is looking good right now.
Matt Garza
While Garza isn't ready for a bullpen session yet, that time could be coming soon. Garza has been out since early in the season with a right lat strain, but is tentatively scheduled for a bullpen session on Thursday. If he emerges from that feeling well, a path could be set up to get him back within a month or so.
Corey Knebel
Knebel has been dealing with a right oblique strain, and his return could be coming up as well. Like Garza, Knebel is set for a bullpen session this week, most likely on Friday. If he emerges from that feeling well, his path back could be set and he could return in around a month.
Sean Nolin
The one negative update we have so far is on Sean Nolin. Unfortunately, Nolin hasn't made any progress on his injured elbow and is still not throwing. Yesterday, Craig Counsell mentioned that a decision time is coming for Nolin, and that could involve Tommy John surgery.
Zack Jones
There's no news to report on Jones yet. He was transferred to the 60-day DL following Alex Presley's promotion, so he's out until at least June. It's important to remember that if Jones does return and does not log 90 days on the active roster, he will remain on Rule 5 status entering next season.
Rymer Liriano
Like Jones, there's no news to report on Liriano yet. Liriano has been on the 60-day DL since the start of the season with multiple facial fractures sustained in a game during spring training. He will be out until at least June as well.
Yhonathan Barrios
Barrios had right rotator cuff surgery and is likely out for the remainder of the season.
