What We Learned: Eventful series against the Marlins

It was an eventful series against the Marlins that featured a no-hit bid, a triple play, two comeback attempts, and a massive outburst from the offense. We discuss that and more in today's What We Learned.

This Weekend's Results

Marlins 6, Brewers 3

Adam Conley dominated the Brewers for 7 2/3 innings, not allowing a single hit. Meanwhile, the Marlins offense got four runs off of Brewers starter Zach Davies and two off of the bullpen. Of course, the discussion of the day was Don Mattingly's decision to remove Conley at 7 2/3 innings with the no-hit bid intact. Jose Urena came in and lost the no-hitter and shutout in the ninth, as the Brewers rallied with three runs and had had the winning run at the plate, but couldn't complete the comeback. (The Brewers also turned a triple play in the game.)

Marlins 7, Brewers 5

Slightly better game on Satudray, but it was still brutal. Chase Anderson allowed five runs in 3 2/3 innings. The Brewers offense only managed one run early. They managed to get back into the game with four late runs, and had the tying run at the plate in the eighth inning, but couldn't make a comeback for the second straight game.

Brewers 14, Marlins 5

This time, it was the Brewers turn to explode on offense. The 14 runs were a season high, and it helped the Brewers not have to worry about Wily Peralta, who allowed five runs and thirteen hits, and couldn't get through the sixth inning. The bullpen shut down the Marlins offense for the rest of the game.
