I thought it was another shaky start for Zach Davies. He got through the first two innings unscathed but couldn't do the same in the third. A single, double, and triple in the inning gave the Angels a 2-1 lead. He wasn't sharp in the second inning either, so I was worried it was only going to get worse. But the opposite occurred. He really settled down and didn't allow a run the rest of his outing which lasted six innings.
Hernan Perez had a big day for the Brewers. He scored their first run with a solo home run in the second inning. Then he'd come around to score their third run in the sixth inning. He had singled and made it to third after Ramon Flores singled and Colin Walsh walked to load the bases. But it would be a wild pitch from Cam Bedrosian that allowed Perez to come home. No more hits were logged that inning.
The Brewers didn't hold onto that lead for very long though. Tyler Thornburg, who has been quite good this year, came into the game in the 8th inning and promptly served up a lead off home run to Mike Trout, who has been quite good this year. After a single and a walk, CJ Cron was able to give the Angels a 4-3 lead with a base hit. Blaine Boyer then game into the game and gave up two more runs. By the end of the inning the Angels would take a 6-3 lead.
David Goforth pitched the 9th inning for the Brewers and allowed one run. No longer a save opportunity, the Angels opted to leave Joe Smith in the game. He quickly dealt with the Brewers, retiring them in order. The Brewers would drop this one by a score of 6-3.
