The Brewers have been a little busy today on the transaction wire. They started off their day by using the vacant 40-man roster spot from designating Sam Freeman for assignment to claim reliever Michael Kirkman off of waivers from San Diego. This is actually Kirkman's second stint in the Brewers organization, as he played at Colorado Springs for the Brewers last year, posting a 3.09 ERA in 33 appearances before being released. Kirkman signed with the Padres in the offseason and began his season in the minors before being added to the major league roster. He made one appearance and then was designated for assignment, then claimed by the Brewers. Since Kirkman does not have minor-league options available, another roster move will have to be made to clear a space on the active roster.
In addition, the Brewers announced that starting pitcher Wily Peralta has been placed on the paternity list following the birth of his daughter. As a corresponding move, the Brewers recalled Tyler Cravy, who will start for Peralta tomorrow. Cravy is not stretched out much so how long he will be able to pitch tomorrow is up in the air. He did make a start on Sunday for Colorado Springs, pitching 3.2 innings and throwing 64 pitches. If the Brewers can get five innings from him, it should save the bullpen. This is Cravy's second stint with the Brewers this season. In five appearances earlier this season, he posted a 3.18 ERA.
EDIT: Adam McCalvy adds on that Wily Peralta will rejoin the rotation on Monday. He should make his start that day, then everyone else will get an extra day of rest after that.
