Brewers (11-16) @ Reds (11-17) series preview

The two rebuilding clubs in the NL Central go to battle in a four game series.

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

The Reds are one of a handful of teams that have been worse off than the Brewers this year--there are actually more than I realized so far. It's no surprise though. Like Milwaukee, Cincinnati is at the start of a rebuild phase. Only theirs is off to a much worse start. They traded Johnny Cueto last year for a solid haul. But then they ended up selling quite low on Todd Frazier and Aroldis Chapman. They also tried to trade second baseman Brandon Phillips, but that fell through when he vetoed the trade to the Nationals. Now they don't have much left in the coffers to trade off. Their farm system isn't bad, but it's not nearly as good as the Brewers or Braves--who are also rebuilding.

This is a four game series and the Reds are half a game behind the Brewers. There's a good chance one of these teams ends up much further back than the other by the end of play on Sunday. As this series takes place in Cincy, we could be in store for a home run derby. I know I'm salivating at the prospects of Chris Carter hitting here!
