Following tonight's game, the Brewers made a roster move, activating Will Smith from the 15-day DL. Smith has been out since spring training when he tore his MCL, and it was feared that he might be lost for the season. However, after several weeks of rest, rehab, and a week on rehab assignment, he is ready to return.
The original plan was to wait until after Wednesday's game to activate Smith. However, after the bullpen was needed tonight, a move was needed sooner. As a result, Goforth was sent down to Triple-A, and Smith was activated from the DL.
In two appearances at High-A Brevard County, Smith pitched three innings and allowed just one hit and struck out four. Following that, he went to Double-A Biloxi and pitched an inning, striking out one in a clean inning of work. With everything checking out following that appearance, he was deemed ready to return to the team.
