While I couldn't identify any foreign born MLB players from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen, the sport of American baseball is an incredibly diverse one. Closing off our borders is a choice, and that choice may change the demographics of the league. There are many players who are born outside the United States, including the following members of the Brewers roster:

Orlando Arcia - Venezuela

Jhan Marinez - Dominican Republic

Wily Peralta - Dominican Republic

Manny Pina - Venezuela

Hernan "LBR" Perez - Venezuela

Jonathan Villar - Dominican Republic

Domingo Santana - Dominican Republic

It is also interesting to note that the 2012 Pureto Rican referendum on statehood was narrowly defeated (46-54), and given the Brexit-like climate, they may revisit the issue and seek independence. Jorge Lopez and Yadiel Rivera were born in Puerto Rico.

Please note: This is not an invitation to argue about political values, but to speculate on the consequence that the US is becoming more isolationist by choice, and it may impact the quality of talent in the League, and the ability to scout foreign talent. I was concerned about saying anything at all, but I trust this community to be respectful of our diverse political and social opinions and instead focus only on how it impacts baseball and the Brewers.

The percentage of players who were born outside the 50 United States on the 2015 Opening Day 25-man rosters and inactive lists was 26.5 percent. These players come from 17 countries and territories. This was an increase of 0.4 of a percentage point from 2014.

Does this change the way teams scout talent? Will it have little or no effect on the League? What do you think?
