What We Learned: The offseason starts moving

It took a little bit, but the offseason is finally moving at a better pace for the Brewers. We look at their most recent moves and more in today’s What We Learned.

It took a little while, but the Milwaukee Brewers offseason is finally moving along a bit. Following the Winter Meetings last week, the Brewers have started filling out the open spots on their team with some signings. In addition to the signing of Yovani Gallardo (who got a one-year non-guaranteed deal), the Brewers also added starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin to the team. Coming over after a year with the Padres, Chacin got a two-year deal with the Brewers. There’s some caution to be seen in his number, but also some optimism. In addition, his deal is front-loaded, which should help the Brewers next year if they want to make a bigger push.

In addition, the Brewers have several other deals out there for some team depth heading into spring training. Reports suggest that the Brewers are closing in on a deal with Boone Logan, a LHP who sat out last season with an injury. There’s no word yet on whether his deal with be a major league or minor league deal, though it shouldn’t be a restrictive deal either way. Also, there are plenty of minor league deals coming in for the team. Eric Davis, Mike Zagurski, and Radhames Liz are a few of the names that have been added on minor league deals so far. There will be plenty of competition for jobs in spring training, with the Brewers hoping to find those couple of players who will make their team better.
