What We Learned: The Feliz era is over

Neftali Feliz is officially done with the Brewers, and the Brewers endured a rain delay to win a second straight game against the Cardinals. We look at that and more in today’s What We Learned.

Brewers News and Notes

The Neftali Feliz era appears to be over in Milwaukee. With the Brewers needing to make a roster move to reactivate Matt Garza to start on Wednesday, the Brewers finally pulled the plug on the Neftali Feliz experiment. Feliz was officially designated for assignment, ending his time with the Brewers.

It had just become apparent with Feliz that he wasn’t going to get any better. He finished his time with the Brewers with a 6.00 ERA, 7.09 WHIP, 7.0 K/9, 5.0 BB/9, and 8 home runs allowed in 27 innings. In the month of June, he had allowed an 11.25 ERA, .333/.478/.889 battling line, 5 ER, 5 BB, 7 H, 3 HR, and just 4 K. That was covering four innings over five appearances. With minor league reinforcements available, it was time to make the move.

He’s not the only bullpen pitcher that should be on notice right now. Wily Peralta was also mentioned, though he will get more time to prove that he can pitch well in the bullpen. Carlos Torres and Oliver Drake could also be in trouble. David Stearns isn’t opposed to making roster moves for the bullpen if it’s needed and justified. None of them should feel safe right now.
