Brewers News and Notes

It was a weekend of big performances for the Brewers. It started on Friday, when Eric Thames won the game for the Brewers with a walk-off home run in the tenth, the second straight night be had accounted for the Brewers winning run. Saturday’s game also went into extra innings, but Keon Broxton tried to overcome a failure by the bullpen with a game-tying home run, but they gave it right back to lose in the eleventh. Then came Sunday, with the bullpen desperately needing a day off. Jimmy Nelson gave it to them, pitching a complete game with just one run allowed and ten strikeouts. It was one of those performances that could be remembered for many years to come.

The Pirates are in Milwaukee next, and the Brewers can continue to build on that division lead. Meanwhile, rookie ball gets underway in Helena tonight as the Helena Brewers start their season, with plenty of new draft signings inbound.
