Earlier today, reports came out that the Brewers would be placing Chase Anderson on the disabled list today following his oblique strain in last night’s game. That news was confirmed today, with the corresponding roster move for the injury move:
RHP Chase Anderson (left oblique strain) has been placed on the 10-day DL. RHP Jorge López recalled from Double-A @BiloxiShuckers.

This will be Jorge Lopez’s second time in the majors, following a few starts that he received at the end of the 2015 season. Lopez has spent the season in Biloxi this year following a rough showing at Triple-A Colorado Springs, which has been known to be tough on pitchers. In 69.2 innings in Biloxi this year, Lopez has posted a 5.04 ERA with a 9.7 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9 marks. Lopez’s last two appearances have come in the bullpen, and both were scoreless covering three innings.
While Lopez has been a starting pitcher in the past, it appears as though he’s just up here now to cover in the bullpen until the Brewers decide who to place in the rotation. From Adam McCalvy:
Lopez just moved to the 'pen for Biloxi. He will help Brewers cover the next few days while they figure out who starts in Anderson's spot. https://t.co/NlDzxcPiTN

It’s still up in the air as to who the Brewers will move into the starting rotation, but they do have some options. Both Paolo Espino and Josh Hader were starting for Colorado Springs, and could be moved back into the rotation with the Brewers as well. The Brewers could also elect to bring in someone from outside the 40-man roster to fill the spot, since they have an open spot following Nick Franklin’s DFA. Michael Blazek is currently thriving in Colorado Springs, being moved into a starting role this season. In 20 appearances, the last 10 of those being starts, he’s posted a 3.13 ERA and 3.93 FIP, along with a 52/25 K:BB mark.
We should find out the replacement for Anderson on Sunday afternoon, as Anderson’s next turn in the rotation was set for Monday afternoon against the Orioles.
