We are in the middle of one of the most exciting stretches of the baseball season right now. Post All-Star break, pre-trade deadline, teams are competing on the field every day and still trying to determine whether they’ll be buyers or sellers come the end of this month. Rumors are flying around with new ones introduced on a daily basis, and we’ve already seen several significant trades take place around the league.
Our own Milwaukee Brewers have had plenty of press dedicated to who they may pursue at this trade deadline, but whether David Stearns goes for a big fish like Sonny Gray or remains more reserved in his deadline shopping, he’ll have an ample amount of prospect capital to work with.
Usually around this time of year is when the various prospect ranking outlets begin to update their scouting reports and lists based on how players have performed and evolved during the first half of the season. Baseball America is no exception, having recently released their updated top-100 prospects list. Yesterday, BA published their updated top-10 prospect lists for each individual organization. Here is how things shook out for our beloved local nine:
- OF Lewis Brinson (#16 overall)
- RHP Brandon Woodruff (#43)
- LHP Josh Hader (#61)
- RHP Luis Ortiz (#67)
- RHP Corbin Burnes
- SS/2B Isan Diaz
- 2B/OF Keston Hiura
- OF Corey Ray
- SS Mauricio Dubon
- 3B Lucas Erceg
This list has seen quite a bit of shaking up since the preseason. In the eyes of BA’s evaluators, Brandon Woodruff, Corbin Burnes, and Mauricio Dubon have seen their stock rise exponentially, and Keston Hiura slots right into the top 10 after being selected in the first round in June’s draft. On the flip side, Corey Ray has seen his stock plummet while dealing with contact issues in Carolina while Trent Clark, Phil Bickford, and Marcos Diplan have all fallen out of the top 10.
Beyond those players in the top 10, BA credits RHP Freddy Peralta, 1B/3B Jake Gatewood, and OF Monte Harrison with improving their future outlook based on their performance and adjustments this season.
