Milwaukee Brewers send Michael Blazek to AAA, recall Paolo Espino

10

The Brewers made a move this afternoon to get a fresh arm in their bullpen before this weekend's series with the Cubs at Miller Park. Michael Blazek has been optioned to AAA Colorado Springs after throwing 61 pitches in 2.1 innings against the Nationals yesterday. After allowing 8 runs - including 6 homers - Blazek's ERA sits at 8.31 through 8.2 MLB innings this year. As for Espino, this will be his 4th stint with the Brewers after making his MLB debut this season at age 30. He's tossed 17.2 innings across 6 appearances and has compiled a 6.11 ERA. He'll provide some length out of the bullpen in case there's a short start by a Brewer pitcher in the next few days. Also of note, Rob Scahill has accepted his assignment to AAA for the 2nd time this season and will remain with the org for now, hoping to get back to the big leagues this year.
