Milwaukee Brewers think Ryan Braun will play Friday; Junior Guerra might hit DL

The Milwaukee Brewers have had injuries occur with a couple of notable players in the last few days before the All-Star break. First, Junior Guerra was struck by a line drive in the bottom of the 4th inning on Friday, right before the game went into a rain delay. Guerra did not return to the mound after the 51-minute holdup and the club announced the reason as a shin contusion. Apparently Guerra is still limping around today and may require a DL stint. The Brewers would be able to backdate that to the yesterday, which means that Guerra would be eligible to return in time to pitch the 5th game after the break. Then, during yesterday's ball game, Ryan Braun was lifted early after experiencing some cramping in his calf. Braun missed nearly two months worth of action with calf issues, but the club feels that he should be ready to go when the second half begins on Friday. Counsell did admit that Braun will need to continue to be given regular off days as he works his way back to 100% from the injury that's plagued him most of the season. He's been productive when on the field at least, batting .259/.342/.545 with 10 HR in 161 PA. (Statistics courtesy of Fangraphs)
