Guerra, 32, was the #2016BrewersAce and Milwaukee's opening day starter this season. He got hurt three innings into that game though, wound up missing 7 weeks of action and never found his form as the year went on. Guerra was demoted to the minors in late July after 13 mostly unsuccessful starts and returned to the MLB as a September call-up. Altogether this season he owns a 4.90 ERA and 62:41 K/BB ratio in 68.0 IP. Encouragingly though, he has struck out 12 of the 24 batters he's faced as a reliever since being recalled, walking just 2 while allowing 3 earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched. Guerra isn’t stretched out at this point, so Counsell expects Saturday’s tilt to be a bullpen game for the Milwaukee Nine.
Davies, 24, has ridden a resurgent second half to a his second consecutive strong season in Milwaukee’s starting rotation. He’s tossed 191.1 innings this year while compiling a 3.90 ERA and 124:55 K/BB ratio. He only threw 4.0 innings his last time out, though, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs against the Cincinnati Reds.
