The Triple-A playoffs open tonight, and there’s definitely no love lost in this series. It’s Brewers vs. Cardinals at the minor league level. The winner of this series will go on to play the winner of the El Paso-Reno series and play for the PCL Championship.
In Game One, Taylor Jungmann gets the call for the Sky Sox. Jungmann began the season by making the Opening Day roster, but was optioned down after just one appearance. He was sent down to Biloxi, and worked his way back up to Colorado Springs, where he spent most of the season. In 17 games for the Sky Sox, he posted a 2.59 ERA and 4.01 FIP, with a 8.17 K/9 and 3.89 BB/9. He’s avoided the home run ball this year (0.40 HR/9), which is a good sign, especially pitching in Colorado Springs.
Opposing him will be Cardinals #8 prospect (according to MLB.com) Dakota Hudson. He has risen through the Cardinals system quickly, going from rookie ball and High-A in 2016 to Double-A and then Triple-A in 2017. In 7 starts with the Redbirds, he has posted a 4.42 ERA and 4.57 FIP, with a 4.42 K/9 and 3.49 BB/9 rate. Prior to that, in 18 starts at Double-A, his stats were 2.53 ERA, 3.64 FIP, 6.08 K/9, and 2.68 BB/9.
