The Brewers camp got into full swing today as pitchers and catchers took their physicals and got into their first workouts. Here are some notes from the first day of workouts:
- One more player is coming into camp, and it’s a familiar face. The Brewers signed Nick Franklin to a minor-league deal with an invite to Spring Training.
- The first day of workouts didn’t last too long due to wet fields. The Brewers held a workout at 1:30 pm, with pitchers guaranteed to get bullpen sessions in. (Tom Haudricourt via Twitter)
- We’re already starting to figure out who will make the team going into the regular season. Manny Pina will be on the team as one of the catchers, though he’s not guaranteed anything. The other spot is between Stephen Vogt and Jett Bandy, who will both get a look in camp. (Todd Rosiak via JSOnline.com)
- Another player who has a strong chance to make the team is Brent Suter. Though his role is unknown, his past experience gives him an advantage in camp. (Adam McCalvy via Twitter)
- Meanwhile, one player who will not make the team is Adrian Houser. After he underwent an appendectomy last month, he’s behind schedule and will start in the minors. (Adam McCalvy via Twitter)
- Jimmy Nelson’s recovery from shoulder surgery is still on track, and the team has a schedule for him to get back into a MLB game. However, Nelson has not looked at it. (Adam McCalvy via Twitter)
- Yovani Gallardo is in camp this year in a new situation. For the first time in years, he will have to compete from day one as he has to earn a spot on the team. (Adam McCalvy via MLB.com)
- The most anticipated uniform question of the spring was answered today. After Lorenzo Cain took Ed Sedar’s number, Sedar has decided to wear #0. (Tom Haudricourt via Twitter)
- Eric Thames rolled into Spring Training this year with a new truck. (Brewers via Twitter)
- On the other side, Matt Albers will be paying for some car repairs after his windshield was smashed by a ball hit by Jesus Aguilar. (Tom Haudricourt via Twitter)
