The Milwaukee Brewers of Maryvale are back on FSW for this afternoons match-up with the Los Angeles Dodgers of Glendale. The Dodgers are playing split squad games today, and that usually means the “varsity” stays home while youngsters, minor leaguers, and players that might need extra work get to “travel”...travel from Glendale to Maryvale isn’t too onerous, however, and Matt Kemp and Yasmani Grandal have made the trip. Chase Utley gets some at bats too, and struggling Joc Pederson will be in center.
The home game in Maryvale will have the Dodgers’ lefty Manny Banuelos facing the Brewers’ opening day starter Chase Anderson. Anderson will be making his fifth appearance this spring, and fourth start. He hasn’t been sharp yet, only going 9.2 innings with a WHIP of 1.45 and an ERA of 6.52. Chase’s control has been good, with just two walks, but he has struck out only four.
The Brewers have faced lots of lefties this spring, and Craig Counsell has used that to get his lefites at bats against southpaws. Today, Christian Yelich, Travis Shaw, Brett Phillips, and Eric Sogard are in the starting line-up.
