Milwaukee Brewers place Christian Yelich on DL, recall reliever Taylor Williams

Yelich move retroactive to 4/5

MLB: Milwaukee Brewers at San Diego Padres
Another week off for Yelich
Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Christian Yelich will be off for another week or so, as reported by the Brewers:

Yelich will be eligible to return in another week, and this gives him time to heal his injured oblique without the question of “will you be back tomorrow” on a daily basis.

The Brewers will go a man down on the bench (which they have been doing since the injury anyways) and add another arm to the bullpen. The pen has been used extensively so far in the young season due to some poor outings by the rotation.

Milwaukee’s pen now sits at eight, and with closer Corey Knebel down for possibly two months with his injured hammie it’s a good time to expand that group. A huge decision will come next week, however, when Yelich is ready to come off of the DL - do the Brewers stay with the eight man pen, or will Jesus Aguilar need to be sacrificed due to a poor rotation?

Williams pitched in September in the 2017 season and showed a consistent mid to high 90s fastball. He nearly made the big league club out of spring training after a solid showing in the Cactus League but the decision to keep Aguilar sent him to AAA. Williams had a save in his only appearance for Colorado Springs with a perfect seventh inning during the opening day double header.
