MLB Pipeline released an updated Top 100 prospects list yesterday afternoon, and the two Brewers left on the list are moving up. Keston Hiura is now ranked as the 32nd best prospect in baseball. Corbin Burnes is ranked at 60.
Hiura started 2018 ranked at 56. Thanks to several other prospects graduating from the top 100, he had climbed his way up to 48 on MLB.com’s ranking. The new list moves him up 16. Hiura is having a stupendous season. He started with the Carolina Mudcats and hit .320/.382/.529 before earning a bump up to AA. At Biloxi, Hiura has hit .375/.420/.533 through 17 games.
Corbin Burnes has moved from 69 to start the year to 60. Most of that move can be attributed to other prospects leaving the top 100 altogether. Burnes has struggled during his time in Colorado Springs. In 71 innings, he has a 4.84 ERA, 74 Ks and 30 BBs. Milwaukee recently transitioned Burnes to a relief role in the minors to potentially expedite his rise to the majors.
Although the rankings are new, the tools are still the same. A new update will arrive towards late July, after the Pipeline team knows what draftees have signed with what teams.
