Milwaukee Brewers take Micah Bello with the 73rd pick in the 2018 MLB Draft

The Milwaukee Brewers took Micah Bello with their last pick of the first day of the 2018 MLB Draft. The pick makes three consecutive high school bats for Milwaukee.

Bello is an interesting prospect. The more you read about him, the better he sounds but a lot of the rankings have him in the mid to bottom hundreds. My theory is that this is due to Bello being from Hawaii and having little visibility outside of national circuits to the non-team evaluators.

When you read about his skillset, Bello is a five-tool player with potential to spare. He makes great contact, his quick wrists and good swing generate power, he has plus run times, and plays good defense with a strong arm.

Bello is rated as the 121st draft prospect by Baseball America and 171st by MLB Pipeline.

The Brewers won’t pick again until 125 in the fourth round. They lost their third round pick due to signing Lorenzo Cain, which I don’t think anyone is upset about.
