With their eighth pick and the 245th selection in the MLB Draft, the Milwaukee Brewers selected Luis Gonzalez. Gonzalez is from Puerto Rico and attended the Passaic County Technical Institute.

There’s a lot to like about Gonzalez from the few details we’re getting out of the draft. He’s a 6’3” right hander, who throws an above average cutter. Overall, Gonzalez has five pitches and at least four could be average or better. As the youngster grows, the team hopes that he’ll add bulk which should improve his velocity.

Gonzalez did not appear on any of the major pre-season draft prospect rankings. Based on reviews from the scouts that have been lucky enough to watch him, it sounds like Gonzalez has the chance to be quite the steal.
