Milwaukee Brewers activate Junior Guerra and Eric Thames, option Brandon Woodruff and Nate Orf

As expected, both Junior Guerra and Eric Thames will return tonight for the Brewers.

After a week where the Brewers lost several players to injuries, they are now experiencing a week where players are getting healthy.

Prior to tonight’s game against the Nationals, the Brewers activated both RHP Junior Guerra and 1B Eric Thames from the disabled list. Guerra had been out with a forearm injury, while Thames was dealing with a hamstring injury. Neither were believed to be serious injuries, and both ended up missing the minimum time for recovery. Guerra will go right back into the lineup tonight as the starting pitcher. A full lineup is not available yet so we don’t know if Thames will be in as well, but it’s likely with him completely rested for tonight.

To clear roster space, both RHP Brandon Woodruff and infielder Nate Orf were options to Colorado Springs. Both have basically moved into the journeyman role for the Brewers, going up and down as the team needs depth. Woodruff pitched in three games during his current stint, allowing 3 runs and 5 hits in 6.2 innings, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Meanwhile, Orf has not fared too well at the plate in his time up, going 2-for-21 with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts in the month of June.

The return of both Guerra and Thames should provide a much needed boost to a Brewers lineup that is looking for one. Though they have won 2 of their last 3 games, they are just 3-8 over their last 11 games. Getting the team closer to full strength should help turn that around.
