Brewers option Tyler Saladino to make room for Jonathan Schoop

The Brewers’ trade deadline acquisition is in Los Angeles in time for tonight’s game

With the addition of another infielder, it wasn’t much of a question who would be sent to Colorado Springs once Jonathan Schoop got to Los Angeles this afternoon. The Brewers just made it official, announcing Tyler Saladino is the one being optioned.

Whether it’s been the lingering effects of his ankle injury or just a case of a replacement-level player coming back down to earth, Saladino struggled mightily for the entire month of July. In 21 games, Saladino hit just .224/.303/.284, and that was with the benefit of a .318 BABIP. He also struck out 23 times in 67 at-bats.

Meanwhile, it wasn’t quite Kevin Mench’s WWE-style arrival, but the Brewers’ Twitter account added a video of Schoop arriving at Dodger Stadium with his new teammates.

The Brewers aren’t wasting any time putting Schoop in a run-producing role (and taking full advantage of the ‘scope’ puns) — he’s hitting cleanup tonight.

Travis Shaw is out of the lineup with left-hander Rich Hill on the mound for the Dodgers tonight.
