Whether it’s a fluke, a function of the way pitching rotations fall, a tendency to give key players a day off, or a weird inability to hit in day games this year, the Milwaukee Brewers haven’t won on a Sunday since July 8th. Their last win on a Sunday before that came on May 27th.
Luckily, the Brewers have already clinched a series win against the Colorado Rockies, even after last night’s blood-pressure-raising 9th inning. They’ll go for a sweep today with Wade Miley facing off against Colorado ace Jon Gray.
Don’t let Gray’s 4.99 ERA fool you — he’s been electric since being sent down to figure out what went wrong in the first half. Since coming back after the All-Star break, Gray has put up a 1.66 ERA in three starts, holding AL contenders Seattle and Houston to a combined 2 runs over 14.1 innings. In his last start, he held the Cardinals to 2 earned runs over 7.1 innings.
First pitch is 1:10 p.m. CDT. Someone send me one of those talking Bob Uecker bottle openers.
