The calendar has rolled over into September, which means the September call-ups are coming. The Brewers made good use of the extra roster space by adding their three waiver deadline pickups, and now they are continuing to add on by calling up five more players.

Overall, none of these players are a surprise. All have spent some length of time with the Brewers so far this season, and all of them could help contribute to the team down the stretch. Most will add to the bench depth, though could see a start or two as needed. Broxton and Saladino could help solidify the defense in late games, while Santana count be a late bench bat, and Nottingham emergency catching depth. Brandon Woodruff is likely heading to the bullpen, but could be a candidate for a start if the starting rotation continues to have issues.

This is not going to be it for roster moves, though. The Brewers still need to add Zach Davies to the roster for his start on Monday, so that roster move is still to come. Depending on how he does in Colorado Springs, Corey Knebel could still return this year. In fact, Adrian Houser and Freddy Peralta also could also come back up at some point. However, there’s also a limit to when players would actually see playing time, which may keep some of those other players in the minors.

For now, the Brewers are looking at a 33-man roster entering the month of September, and it could continue to grow based on what other moves the Brewers made. Regardless of what the Brewers do, it should be an interesting September.
