MLB Pipeline has put the Milwaukee Brewers’ top prospect, Keston Hiura, at #20 on their new top-100 prospects list. The Brewers’ top prospect started at 56 last year and made it up to #30. Hiura has already ranked #6 on Baseball Prospectus’ top-101 and #17 on Baseball America’s list.
Pipeline seems to be incredibly high on Hiura’s skill set. The Pipeline team gives him a 70 hit tool, meaning they project Hiura to be able to hit .300 at his peak in the majors. They also gave him a 60 power tool, which shows a 25 home run projection once Hiura has fully developed.
The biggest “knocks” on Hiura continue to be his defense. Pipeline only gives him a 45 arm, but they say it’s a reliable to make the routine throws, but might be a little short for the tough ones that come up on long plays. Meanwhile, his fielding ability still grades out at 50, which is major league average.
Based on the grades give, Pipeline projects Hiura to be a top second baseman in baseball when he matures. MLB Pipeline also recently named him as the league's top second base prospect.
