Declining Middle Class

It's a thought that has been floating around in my head and I wanted to throw it out there. I don't have any studies or facts and figures. It's just off the top of my head.

  • The very good / all star caliber players will continue to be paid very well.
  • If you are past the minimum paid years of control, have enough talent to play in the majors, and are willing to make less that $2M a year, you will find a job in MLB.
  • What I would call the "middle class" is declining. I don't have the exact $$ figures to which would define a player as middle class. What we would come up as a wage scale to call a middle class major leaguer mostly consist of very good players still in their arbitration years, very good / all star players on a team friendly contract, or players willing to accept a 1 year or short term deal.
If you would add up all the players in those three catagories, I think you would find the "middle class" percentage to be smaller than anticipated. I think the new CBA will be addressing this and will cause the most issues with agreeing on a new one.
