The site credits Counsell’s savvy usage of his expanded roster for taking their managerial award. When rosters expanded, CC guided his team on an unbelievable hot streak that landed them back in the playoffs, even without the reigning MVP. The Brewers came up just short of winning the division, pushing the rival Cardinals to the final week of the season. Instead, the team went into the playoffs as the second Wild Card and lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Washington Nationals, just like everyone else.
Counsell was second in the Baseball Writers Association of America’s Manger of the Year awards. He lost out to St. Louis Cardinals skipper Mike Shildt.
