Yasmani Grandal had the night off last night. Well, he did until the fourth inning when backup Manny Pina left the game with an apparent hamstring issue resulting from running out a ground ball. It was immediately announced that Pina would go on the injured list. The question was, would Jacob Nottingham or David Freitas get the call?

Either Nottingham or Freitas up.
The answer came this morning in a report by Mark Feinsand that Jacob Nottingham will be coming to the big league club. The Brewers confirmed the report a few hours later by announcing the official transaction.

If this decision was to be based on offensive merit alone, David Freitas would be getting the call. Freitas is slashing .390/.439/.492 with a homer in 66 plate appearances so far for San Antonio this year. In contrast, Nottingham is slashing .247/.351/.395 with 2 home runs with the Missions. Obviously the Brewers want to give the younger Nottingham the experience with the major league club along with the tutelage that Grandal (and Pina) might give him over this time period.
