At the very least, you can’t accuse the Brewers of just sticking with the status quo and hoping things turn around as their losing streak has now reached 5 games.
Corbin Burnes is headed back to San Antonio. Jimmy Nelson is getting booted from the rotation. And Craig Counsell is putting out his most out-of-the-box lineup of the season in hopes of getting something jump-started.
Perhaps because he’s tired of seeing Christian Yelich hit solo home runs, Yasmani Grandal is leading off for the Brewers today, and Ben Gamel is hitting 9th. Mike Moustakas is hitting 3rd, behind Yelich. Lorenzo Cain, after going 2-for-4 last night in the 3-spot, is hitting cleanup.
Jhoulys Chacin is getting the start on the mound today, hitting 8th. Before the game, David Stearns acknowledged he may be able to trade for pitching help in the coming weeks, but the guys he already has — reading between the lines, he probably meant Chacin — have to start pitching better.
He’ll have to do it against one of the best pitchers in the National League this year — albeit one the Brewers have managed to win twice against — in Luis Castillo.
First pitch is 3:05 p.m. CDT.
