Since the hiring of David Stearns as General Manager, the Milwaukee Brewers have been much more invested in the international market than they had been under previous regimes. With just ten months separating us from the 2020-2021 international signing period, we have a reported link between the Brewers and a 2020 international signee. According to Baseball America (subscription required), the young man’s name is Jackson Brayan Chourio.
Baseball America describes the Venezuelan as a lean and athletic player. Chourio has played both shortstop and centerfield. At just 15 years old, he has yet to develop has fast as some of the others in the class. He has good speed and projects to remain somewhere in the middle of the diamond. Supposedly there is real potential for him to be a power and speed threat.
Chourio is expected to sign with Milwaukee. He is expected to get somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.5 and $2 million to sign. Once again, the Brewers look for up-the-middle, athletic types to fill their system.
