Milwaukee Brewers re-sign Manny Pina to a one-year contract to avoid arbitration

“Pineapple” comes back to Milwaukee.

Over the past 24 hours the Brewers have inked three catchers. They signed Luke Maile yesterday. Earlier today they tendered Omar Narvaez a contract. Finally it was announced that the Brewers signed the “Pineapple,” Manny Pina. Pina and the Brewers avoided arbitration as the two sides agreed to a 1-year, $1.65M contract.

Pina was having a very nice season for Milwaukee in 2020 until he tore a meniscus in his knee. Pina has been an underrated MLB catcher since coming from Detroit in the Francisco Rodriguez trade.

Arbitration predictions had Pina making $2.15 in 2021. The Brewers’ front office looks as if it is saving more money on the Pina signing as well. Adequate with the bat, Pina is a superb defender, and he will be in Milwaukee for at least one more season the way things look now.
