Even though the offseason is technically over now that Spring Training is in full swing, the work never stops for Slingin’ David Stearns and company. The front office brain trust has not added any additional talent to the fold recently, but they have taken the steps to lock in two players as part of their long-term core going forward. So far this spring contract extensions have been announced with Freddy Peralta and Christian Yelich that should keep both players in Milwaukee for most of the coming decade.
RHP Freddy Peralta
5 years, $15.5 mil guaranteed with two club options:
- $1,174,800 signing bonus
- 2020:$575,200, 2021:$1 mil, 2022:$2.25 mil, 2023:$3.5 mil, 2024:$5.5 mil, 2025:$8 mil club option ($1.5 mil buyout), 2026:$8 mil club option (no buyout)
- Incentives based on Cy Young Award voting, All-Star team, World Series MVP, LCS MVP, Comeback Player of Year, Silver Slugger, Rivera/Hoffman reliever of year, and Gold Glove.
OF Christian Yelich
9 years, $215 mil guaranteed with 2029 mutual option:
- 2020:$12.5 mil, 2021:$14 mil, 2022-2028:$26 mil annually, 2029:$20 mil mutual option ($6.5 mil buyout)
- Yelich agreed to annual deferrals of $4 mil of 2022-28 salaries
- full no-trade protection
