Milwaukee Brewers trade Orlando Arcia traded to Atlanta Braves for pair of pitchers

Orlando Arcia’s time in Milwaukee has come to a close. After losing the starting job at shortstop to start this season and splitting time between third base and shortstop, Arcia is heading to a new team. Ken Rosenthal reports that the Braves have acquired Arcia, and Jon Heyman adds that the Brewers will receive two pitchers (though they have not been named yet).

Arcia had been the Brewers starter at shortstop since 2016 after working his way through the minors. He received plenty of recognition coming up through the season, eventually being ranked as the 8th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America and sixth best by MLB.com, both prior to the 2016 season. He made his debut in August of that year, and has been the primary shortstop for most of the time since then. Though his 4+ seasons with the Brewers, he’s posted a .244/.293/.364 batting line and 71 wRC+. Though he was mode known for his defense, it wasn’t enough to make up for his struggles at the plate (-2.3 Ultimate Zone Rating per 150 games). He’s put up a 0.9 fWAR during his time in the majors.

The Brewers will get two pitchers back for Arcia, though it’s unknown at this time who those pitchers will be. We will update this story once more details come out.
