On Monday morning, the Brewers announced they’ve reinstated RHP Zack Godley from the 10-day IL and designated him for assignment. Godley entered the IL in late April after sustaining a finger contusion during a bunt attempt during the April 28 against the Marlins.

The contest might be Godley’s first and last appearance as a Milwaukee Brewer. It was a rough outing for Godley, even outside of the injury. He pitched three innings, struck out five, and walked five, and surrendered four runs (three earned). The outing and subsequent IL stint are only Godley’s latest struggles in a years-long skid.
By DFA’ing Godley, the Brewers open up a spot on their 40-man roster. This would make room for Corbin Burnes. He’s expected to return to the mound sometime this week.
Zack Godley suffered a bruised finger in only game he pitched for #Brewers. By designating him for assignment, he comes off 40-man. That would open a spot to reinstate Corbin Burnes, who is expected back from from COVID absence this week.

As for Godley, he could be picked up by another team, but he might clear waivers given his recent track record. At that point, as a player who’s already been outrighted, he can elect free agency over a minor league deal.
