Yesterday, the Brewers acquired Rowdy Tellez in a trade with the Blue Jays to give them some more infield depth. However, the Brewers still needed to clear roster space to add Tellez to the active roster. With a doubleheader set for today, the Brewers do have the option to carry an extra player. However, the Brewers decided to instead switch out the spot by designating Daniel Robertson for assignment.
Robertson has been playing as a utility player and pinch hitter for the Brewers, but never could get going at the plate. In 50 games covering 90 PA, he hit .164/.303/.274 with a 60 OPS+ and 66 wRC+ . He mostly played at third base, but also saw time at second, shortstop, and first as well. He also pitched a scoreless inning earlier this season. Unfortunately, Robertson is also out of options, so he doesn’t have the flexibility to move up and down from the minors. That also made him more expendable.
With this roster move, the Brewers did not announce a 27th man for the active roster for today’s doubleheader. They will stick with their current active roster for today’s games.
