The Milwaukee Brewers sought another series win today as they faced off with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The game was tight throughout highlighted by excellent pitching by both teams. In the end, the Brewers came out on top 2-1.
While there were not a lot of offensive highlight, the Brewers were on the board early. In the top of the first, Willy Adames singled to left. He immediately stole second base and came around to score when Eduardo Escobar punched an infield single to Juan Castro who also committed a throwing error.

The Brewers scored a second run in the top of the third, and Adames was the instigator once again. This time he walked to get things rolling. With two outs in the inning, Christian Yelich hit a frozen rope over the head of Gregory Polanco that scored Adames for what would be the game winning run.

The Pirates did put a run on the board in the bottom of the third against Brewers’ starter, Eric Lauer, but that would be all they would get. Lauer was excellent in his first start since being placed on the COVID-19 list. He covered 4 innings giving up just the 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 6 and walking 0.
Then the bullpen took over. Brent Suter, Jake Cousins, Brad Boxberger, Devin Williams, and Josh Hader shut the Pirates’ offense down. Between they struck out 7 while walking just 1. Josh Hader picked up his 23rd save, and Brent Suter got his 12th win of the season. With the win, the Brewers are 72-47.
The Brewers get the day off tomorrow, but are right back at it on Tuesday when they travel to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals. Adam Wainwright will go for St. Louis, while Corbin Burnes takes the hill for Milwaukee. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 CT. The game will be televised on Bally Sports Wisconsin and broadcast on WTMJ 620 as well as the Brewers Radio Network.
