Brewers continue to roll as they beat the Giants, 5-2

The Milwaukee Brewers came into tonight’s action hoping to win their fourth game in a row, and their third straight against the San Francisco Giants. Well they got it as they won, 5-2.

In the top of the first, it looked like Kevin Gausman would be mowing down Brewers’ hitters all night. He certainly did in that first inning. With his splitter in full effect, he struck out the side to start the game.

Milwaukee found something in his delivery or were picking up spin better in the top of the second as the Brewers put two on the board. Avisail Garcia led off the inning with a blistering single into left centerfield. Omar Narvaez followed with a single, and Luis Urias worked a walk off Gausman. Later in the inning Garcia and Narvaez would score when Lorenzo Cain punched a single into right field.

Brett Anderson went into the bottom of the second with the lead. The second hitter of the inning, Brandon Crawford laced a 103 mph line drive off of Anderson’s left shoulder. He was actually fortunate to get his shoulder up, because the ball was headed straight for his face. Anderson did finish the inning, but was pulled for the third, and it was a bullpen game from there.

Of note, Christian Yelich kept his hit streak alive, now at 11.

Justin Topa pitched for the first time since going on the injured list to start the season. He took over the bottom of the fifth. He was a little rusty as both Alex Dickerson and Kris Bryant hit hard doubles off of him. The Bryant double scored Dickerson. Bryant would score the tying run when Buster Posey got the bat on a ball that found the first base line for a single. While there were two hard hit balls, Topa’s stuff did still have some filth to it. As for the rest of the bullpen, they gave up nothing.

Milwaukee took the lead back in the top of the seventh. With two outs in the inning, Lorenzo Cain drew a walk. He scampered to third when Jackie Bradley Jr. punched an infield single and Brandon Belt made a throwing error (or flipping error) as he was unable to connect with the pitcher trying to cover first base. Cain scored when Jace Peterson went the other way for a single.

Milwaukee added on in the top of the ninth. To lead off the inning, LoCain hit a ball that was questionable whether it cleared the wall or not. After review, it was ruled a home run.

Next man up was pinch hitter, Kolten Wong. He reached on the Giants’ third error of the inning. Jace Peterson followed with a single, and Willy Adames laced a bullet to left that resulted in a double and an RBI that plated Wong.

The Brewers have one more against these Giants tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:45 CT. Eric Lauer will get the ball for Milwaukee. Logan Webb toes the rubber for the Giants. The game can be seen on YouTube and heard on WTMJ 620 as well as the Brewers Radio Network.
