Jorge Lopez heading back to Biloxi

33

At the end of last season, Jorge Lopez was a rising star in the Brewers system. That changed when he hit Colorado Springs this year and his stats took a nosedive. Through 17 appearances (16 starts) for the Sky Sox, Lopez recorded a 6.81 ERA and 6.35 FIP, with his walk rate also jumping to 6.24 BB/9. After allowing at least six earned runs in three of his last five starts, the Brewers have decided to send him back to Biloxi for now. He posted a 2.26 ERA and 3.36 FIP in Biloxi last season., so hopefully the return to a friendlier environment will be good for Lopez.

Corey Knebel recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs

10

It's been a rather slow week in baseball aside from the ASG activities. The Brewers made a move today though. To fill the bullpen spot they vacated by optioning Michael Blazek to AAA Colorado Springs, they've now recalled RHP Corey Knebel. He started the season on the disabled list and struggled once he returned to MLB action. However since being optioned to AAA he seems to have found his way again.

Michael Blazek optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs

15

Following today's game, the Brewers optioned reliever Michael Blazek to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Since returning from the disabled list, Blazek has had a rough time. In eight appearances covering 6.2 innings, he allowed eleven runs (nine earned) with 8 hits, six walks, and five strikeouts. That resulted in an ERA of 12.15 and a batting line allowed of .296/.424/.741. A corresponding move was not announced right away, and it's possible one won't be announced until the Brewers return from the All-Star Break on Friday.

Brewers outfield in Jackie Robinson special

1

If you missed the Jackie Robinson special, both episodes can be watched on PBS's website. I was already blown away by it all when that last scene of part 2, from 1:52:14 to 1:52:21 appeared - a freeze frame of the Brewers 2011 outfield - Corey Hart, Ryan Braun, and Mike Cameron doing the post game jump bump, all of them wearing the retired Jackie Robinson number 42.

Tom Haudricourt: Will Smith Elects to Rehab, Out 6+ Weeks

After meeting with team physician William Raasch, it looks like Will Smith will try to rehab his knee instead of surgery. No timetable was given, but it looks like three weeks of rest, followed by a few weeks of rehab, and then re-evaluate.
