"We need that guy who can move around out there. We lost (Mark) Kotsay off the bench, who I thought was our best pinch-hitter. We need somebody who can come off the bench and be able to do some things late in ball games." -RRR

"When I first came to Milwaukee, I had a big challenge: Put a team on the field the fans liked more than the sausage races. I still haven't done that. They love those sausage races."

Doug Melvin, via this two part tweet from Scott Merkin of MLB.com. This morning's Mug is running a little late, but I wanted to share my favorite underreported quote from On Deck.

"If it was purely about guaranteed money and guaranteed years, I’d be wearing blue and gold in Milwaukee," Rollins said. "There is a lure about Philly. I’ve been part of the foundation here. The fans have seen me grow up since I was 21. Do you leave that for money or do you stay home? This is where I want to be."

We're trying to figure out what's going to happen and how we do it. We need to have guys start committing when we're together, either yes, I am coming with you or no, you guys don't really have a chance to sign whoever that player is we're talking about. And as soon as we have more commitments one way or another we can move forward and figure out how to fill all of the spots that we have out there.

Ron Roenicke, in his press conference today. There's a full transcript at that link. Use this thread to discuss any other Winter Meetings news that breaks tonight.

MILW last formal offer to Prince Fielder was 5/100, but as part of current talks, they've let it be known that they could stretch to 6/120.

Buster Olney, via Twitter. Until given reason to believe differently, I'm filing this alongside the 5/$100 million offer given to CC Sabathia in 2008. It's a nice gesture, but they have to be aware of the fact that it's very unlikely to be the best offer. (h/t MLBTR)
