#8: Carlos Gomez, May 10 vs. New York Yankees
The New York Yankees came to town for the first time in several years, and on the mound on this day was a familiar face. Former Brewer CC Sabathia was making his first trip back to Miller Park since his half season spent as a Brewer in 2008. He wouildn't get a very warm welcome, though. Carlos Gomez was the first Brewer to face him, and he struck quickly.
Carlos Gomez's home run had a true distance of 439 feet, clearing the left field fence and ricocheting off of the Johnson Controls Stadium Club. It was also the second fastest home run off the bat in 2014, clocked at 112.8 MPH, and reached a height of 124 feet. This one wasn't a cheap one either; it would have been a home run in all 30 MLB ballparks, and wasn't aided by wind or temperature.
This wouldn't be Gomez's longest leadoff home run of the year, though. That one will be coming up later on.
