Here's a quick summary of everything that's happened to the Brewers the past few days!

The 2015 trade deadline has come and gone, and boy what a day it was for the Brewers. In the end, Milwaukee has traded 20% of their active roster in the past week, acquired numerous prospects, brought in one player off the waiver wire, and emphatically put the franchise on a new course.

Moves began on July 23, when the Brewers traded Aramis Ramirez to the Pirates for Yhonathan Barrios in what was a relatively minor deal. Ramirez had caught fire in the weeks before the trade, but was still having a down season and is going to retire at the end of the season. Barrios is a hard-throwing converted infielder who may or may not be able to become a solid reliever. The Brewers have some work to do, but there are some exciting tools. Since the trade, Ramirez is 4-22.

Then, for a week, everything was quiet. There were some minor murmurings here and there, but those were more along the lines of 'Brewers could still be interested in trading Carlos Gomez', 'Teams interested in Gerardo Parra', 'Hearing Jonathan Lucroy had vermont cheddar, does he hate Wisconsin?', that kind of thing.

A week of nothing, causing some concern that maybe the Brewers wouldn't make the number of deals for which we were hoping. Then, everything blew up.

Beginning with Carlos Gomez getting traded by the Brewers. Twice.

The first time was to the Mets. Here's the links to the major events:

The Mets were on the verge of a big trade, and were rumored to really want Gomez

Word broke that the Brewers and Mets agreed to a deal that would send Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores to Milwaukee

Mets GM Sandy Alderson said point blank that a deal would not be made with Milwaukee

What caused the trade not to happen? Apparently the Mets wanted the Brewers to throw in a draft pick or money and, when the Brewers said no, New York found Gomez's medicals to be unsatisfactory

That was Wednesday. On Thursday, with 24 hours before the deadline, the Brewers still hadn't made an actual trade since the Ramirez deal.

Then, over the course of about 18 hours, the Brewers went hog wild. The first chip to fall, and the biggest, was Carlos Gomez, again. This time, the Brewers traded him out of the National League, to the Houston Astros. Not just Gomez, but Mike Fiers as well. Fiers, a 30-year-old with years of control remaining, was a crucial part in the trade as it allowed the Brewers to bring in the Astros best prospect, Brett Phillips (profile). Along with Phillips, the Brewers got Josh Hader (profile), Domingo Santana (profile) and Adrian Houser (profile), a haul that has received rave reviews.

To fill the roster spots vacated by Gomez and Fiers, the Brewers recalled Logan Schafer and Elian Herrera.

All that took place Thursday night. Then we got a little sleep, and the Brewers got back to action on the day of the deadline. Rumors had been flying that Gerardo Parra was being shopped to the Orioles, but until today nothing had come of it. Friday Morning, the Brewers made it official, trading Parra to Baltimore for pitching prospect Zach Davies. Davies has been an under-the-radar prospect, but has consistently moved his way through the minors and should absolutely have a shot in Milwaukee's rotation in the near future.

At that point, it seemed fairly likely the Brewers were done dealing. But they had one more trick up their sleeve, saving salary by shipping reliever Jonathan Broxton to the Cardinals for a low-level outfield prospect. Not the most glamorous move, but it saved Milwaukee some money and bought them a lottery ticket.

With two empty roster spots vacated by Parra and Broxton, the Brewers first recalled Tyler Thornburg from Triple-A. The final roster spot went to a waiver claim, Preston Guilmet.

All in all, here's exactly what happened over the past week+:

Called up to majors:
Tyler Thornburg
Elian Herrera
Logan Schafer
David Goforth (called up when Ramirez was traded, demoted when Wily Peralta was activated off DL)

A wild few days, with lots of fall out. We'll have lots more on the impact of these trades in the coming days!

With open 25-man and 40-man roster space, the Brewers claimed Preston Guilmet off waviers today.

Following the trades of Gerardo Parra and Jonathan Broxton today, they found that they had some available roster space available. One of those spots was filled by calling up Tyler Thornburg earlier today. The other was filled with a waiver claim, as the Brewers were awarded a claim on Preston Guilmet.

Guilmet hasn't seen much time in the majors yet, but what he has seen hasn't been good. In 21 career major league innings, he has posted a 6.43 ERA and 4.24 FIP. On the flip side, though, his minor league numbers are very good. This season, he has posted a 1.95 ERA over 32.1 IP between three teams. The strikeout rate is nice at 7.71 K/9, but there's also some control issues with a walk rate at 3.00 BB/9. So, there is some promise here.

Guillmet primarily throws three pitches. His fastball averages at 89 MPH and he throws it 39.3% of the time. He also has a slider that average 82.8 MPH and is thrown 45.3% of the time, and a cutter at 88.5 MPH that accounts for 14.6% of his pitches.

The Brewers have the roster space for now, so taking a flier on a guy like this isn't a bad idea. If he puts things together, the Brewers could end up with six years of control on him. If not, there's nothing lost by letting him go. Overall, it's a decent pickup for them.

Broxton is in the middle of a poor 2015 campaign, but if there's any team that can cure what ails him it might be the Cardinals.

With only hours to go until the trade deadline, Doug Melvin isn't done yet: The Brewers have traded reliever Jonathan Broxton to the St. Louis Cardinals, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

The Brewers will receive outfielder Maik Collymore in return, but are also sending some cash to the Cardinals. That's to be expected: Broxton was owed $9 million this season and has a $2 million buyout at the end of the year that is sure to be exercised.

The Brewers acquired Broxton in a post-deadline deal from the Reds last year as Milwaukee tried to resuscitate what had been a first-place team that was stumbling out of playoff contention. Unfortunately, Broxton's time with the Brewers didn't go especially well as he posted a 4.35 ERA in 10.1 innings with the team in 2014 despite outstanding peripheral numbers.

This year, Broxton has been terrible coming out of the Brewers bullpen. Over 36.2 innings, he has a 5.89 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP and a 3.65 FIP. Though his strikeout (9.1 K/9) and walk (2.5 BB/9) numbers have been good, Broxton has been getting hit hard. His 10.1 hits/9 is the second-worst such number of his career. Part of that is a high BABIP, but part is batters clearly seeing the ball better against him this year than in the past.

Collymore is 20 years old and is in his third professional season after being drafted in the 10th round of the 2013 draft out of high school. He has yet to make it out of rookie ball and has hit .286/.360/.429 over 96 career games. Those numbers are held up primarily by a 2014 campaign that saw him post an .883 OPS.

The Brewers have traded a struggling reliever to the Cardinals before: In 2013, Milwaukee sent John Axford to St. Louis. In return, they got Michael Blazek. That ended up being a very good deal for the Brewers; we can only dream of this Broxton trade working out so well. At the very least, though, Milwaukee is saving some money.

With the deadline at 4:00 ET/3:00 CT, the Brewers now have just Kyle Lohse and Neal Cotts as expiring contracts. Cotts might still be dealt, but Lohse would be a hard sell. Then again, I would have said the same of Broxton, so who knows?

Parra has been in the middle of an excellent season, but was an expiring contract.

Update: It's official!

The Brewers are very close to trading outfielder Gerardo Parra to the Orioles for pitching prospect Zach Davies, reports Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel. No official announcement has been made yet, but it sounds like that should come shortly, as long as medicals check out.

Parra has been, somewhat surprisingly, one of the very best hitters in baseball this season. Over 100 games, he has batted .328/.369/.517 with nine home runs and has carried the Milwaukee offense at times. That's a bit odd to say because Parra was always a defensive specialist with a middling bat. However, he has broken out in his age-28 season.

The Brewers acquired Parra from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the deadline last season to help out as a fourth outfielder while Ryan Braun and Carlos Gomez dealt with minor injuries. Milwaukee traded away pitcher Anthony Banda and Mitch Haniger.

With Davies coming back to Milwaukee, I think it's fair to say Doug Melvin and the Brewers did very well. Despite Parra being a free agent at the end of the year, the Brewers got a pitcher who has firmly established himself as a solid, almost-ready prospect.

Davies was the sixth-best prospect in the Orioles system before the season started according to Baseball America. John Sickels had him as the seventh-best in their system. Davies is someone who is probably a back-rotation starter as a right-hander who throws in the upper-80s/lower-90s. He's yet another lanky pitcher that the Brewers seem to have a fascination with, standing at 6'0" and 150 pounds.

The 2015 season has been a breakout year for Davies, though, as he has notched a 2.84 ERA and 81 strikeouts over 101 innings pitched. He's not overpowering and doesn't get a ton of strikeouts, but has fair control and is a pretty sure thing to make the majors. Davies was drafted in 2011 and has been pitching in Triple-A this season, so he's moved quickly.

The Brewers are probably done making deals at this point, but never say never. The trade deadline is at 4:00 ET/3:00 CT today.

A day after a deal between the Brewers and Mets fell through, a new deal between the Brewers and Astros sent Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers to Houston. We look at the trade and more in today's What We Learned.

The last 40 hours have been crazy as a Brewers fan.

On Wednesday, the Brewers had traded Carlos Gomez to the Mets, only for the trade to be called off by the Mets a few hours later. The initial reports from last night had said that the deal was called off because of a medical issue with Gomez's hip. However, the situation got more confusing yesterday morning when reports came out that the actual issue was a financial one, and the medical reason only came up after the Brewers refused to take on a bigger contract or some of Gomez's contract. Either way, the deal was off, and it wasn't going to come back together.

So, we all moved on. The Brewers prepared for another game. Carlos Gomez put it out of his mind and was looking forward to the next day, always smiling despite whatever happens. Things completely calmed down, and with 24 hours to go, there were no solid rumors revolving around the Brewers. Everyone was getting ready for the start of the series against the Cubs. Of course, this should have been a warning to us. Trades tend to strike when we don't expect them.

About a half hour before the Brewers game, the news came out. The Brewers had traded Carlos Gomez to the Astros, along with Mike Fiers. Shortly after the news came out, the full details of the trade were revealed. In exchange, the Brewers received four prospects: outfielders Brett Phillips and Domingo Santana, and pitchers Josh Hader and Adrian Houser. The four prospects composed four of the top 21 players in the Astros system (according to MLB.com), as well as two of the top 100 prospects in all of baseball. Considering what the Brewers were going to get from the Mets, the deal falling through could have blessing for the Brewers.

Of course, there's still time to go until the trade deadline. Shortly after the Gomez/Fiers deal was completed, new rumors came out that the Brewers were in negotiations with the Orioles to trade Gerardo Parra. While nothing was completed last night, the rumors are still out there, and we could see something happen today.

The trade deadline is at 3 pm CST. There's still plenty of time for things to change. Don't get too comfortable, because the Brewers could look drastically different in a matter of seconds.

Yesterday's Results

Cubs 5, Brewers 2

Almost lost in all of the conversation about the Carlos Gomez/Mike Fiers trade yesterday is the game that the Brewers actually did play. Jimmy Nelson was spectacular, pitching seven shutout innings and allowing a total of two hits and three walks while striking out eight. The Brewers had staked him to a 2-0 lead as well with two runs in the third inning. However, the bullpen fell apart, with Jeremy Jeffress, Will Smith, and Michael Blazek combining to allow five runs.

More on the Gomez/Fiers Trade

To fill the roster spots vacated by Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers, Logan Schafer and Elian Herrera were called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Since the rotation had an extra starter in it, this brings the pitching staff back to 5 starters/7 bullpen, with a normal bench of position players.

Following the trade, Noah evaluated all four of the new prospects in the Brewers system. First up is Noah's evaluation of Brett Phillips, who is the jewel of the deal and could develop into a solid all-around outfielder.

In Noah's scouting report for Domingo Santana, he reports that Santana is the prospect closest to the majors, but could also be a boom-or-bust prospect.

Josh Hader is the better one of the two pitching prospects that the Brewers received. Noah notes that he has developed some comparisons to Chris Sale, and could be in the rotation in a couple of years.

Adrian Houser was rising in the Astros system, but still has a lot of work to do to be MLB ready.
